Library Mission

"The Rich Guy Memorial Public Library, believing that citizens must be informed in order to flourish in a democracy, is committed to providing equitable access to materials, programs, services, and facilities that meet the informational needs of our community."

Library Overview

The RGMPL is a mid-sized suburban library, serving a community of 45,000 residents.

The Youth Services department is designed to supplement and enhance the education of the 10,000 children and young adults who live in this district. There are five elementary schools, two middle schools, one K-8 private school, and two high schools in this district.

The YS library facilities include two large spaces for programming, one open and one inside a meeting room. There is a computer lab with 15 stations, 7 adapted for young children, 7 for older children (3 are internet-ready and can be accessed with a signed parental permission slip), 1 with technical adaptations for disabled persons. The library has a special collection of biography titles. A complete list of holdings with a map may be found later in this website.

The YS library currently has 8 staff members: 2 full-time professionals, 3 full-time laypersons, and 3 part-time laypersons. All staff members are responsible for a share of programming and collection management, as well as the daily reference and readers advisory work as needed.

LIS 748-specific Disclaimers

Original design adapted from "Sunflowers v1.0" at Open Source Web Design, tweaked heavily. It was tested for compatibility in Mozilla Firefox 1.5, Internet Explorer 6, and Opera 9. If Safari hates it, I'm really sorry. (We'll say that the RGMPL doesn't have any Mac stations, so there's no need for this to work in Safari.)

All photo manipulation and MS Paint art is my own. The photos in the header were obtained from the royalty-free database at Getty Images.

Two destination links are considered "dead", and that is the link to the online catalog (of which I have none) and to the collection development policy itself (which is outside the scope of this assignment). Were this a webpage for an actual library, the links would have delivered you to a destination where you could navigate through the catalog and the policy.
